Over the past few days, you may have heard scrutiny and controversy regarding the Chicago Party Bus industry. Let me begin with some background. The city of Chicago, often referred to as "ChiRaq" unfortunately, has fallen victim to a rise in Crime, gang activity, shootings, etc. As a result, there have been shootings and violent altercations in any event involving alcohol, whether that be in a club or on a party bus. According to Time Out Chicago, "recent incidents involving illegal and unlicensed buses have prompted Mayor Rahm Emanuel to put forth a new ordinance that cracks down on illegal operators and increases safety requirements for licensed party buses." (source: https://www.timeout.com/chicago/blog/mayor-emanuel-says-the-party-is-over-for-illegal-party-buses-in-chicago-032717). As with any opportunity to make money, the politicians are chiming in with useless ideas about creating a database of companies with certain licenses and so on. Now, let me pick apart that statement a bit.. Not every incident has occurred on an "unlicensed or illegal" party bus. Actually some of them have occurred on party buses belonging to reputable companies who have fallen victim to crime just like much of Chicago has. In addition, the license that they are referring to are for companies who pick up in the city of Chicago only. Is it unheard of to have a group picked up in a suburb have a brawl while within city limits? What is the real problem here? Chicago is spending to much time focusing on paperwork instead of focusing on actual action and relationships. Does Chicago really think that focusing on what eligibility companies have to drive in city limits will really "crack down" on the violence and crime occurring? I've thought about this and racked my brain about how we could possibly avoid these situations and stop the violence on vehicles. It seems to me Chicago isn't try to solve the problem but rather make more money. If Chicago was really willing to deal with the violence, then there are other things that can be done. How about providing all public transportation vehicles with Metal Detectors for free? How about actually forming a partnership with companies and making sure drivers always know they can alert Chicago Police when they feel uncomfortable or have a situation that can potentially get out of control? As with all of these past situations, drivers may not feel comfortable alerting the authorities until it's too late, until someone has already gotten hurt. They may be afraid that if they call, they will be under scrutiny for the passengers' behavior or worried that they may not have proper documentation on board to provide police with if they question their eligibility. The goal of Chicago Police and Politicians should be to form an alliance with reputable companies and assure that they are always ready to serve if there is trouble. There are some policies and laws that are absolutely understandable. There should be video cameras recording at all times on party buses. All passengers should be required to be 21 in order for alcohol to be on vehicles. Weapons should never be allowed. Of course! This is logical and it is the law. But requiring an extra person on vehicles acting as security is going to be an unnecessary additional cost for businesses in an already expensive industry. In addition, suspicious vehicles with no business information or advertising on their vehicles should be pulled over and inspected. As a company, VIP Limousine has already had most of these logical policies in place, before the shootings, before the "crackdown." Customers sign a contract where they are made aware that weapons, illegal drugs, underage drinking, violence, and obscene behavior are not tolerated. Video cameras with 24/7 recording are installed on every single party bus. When there has been a situation a driver needed assistance with, police have been alerted. What was the result? The police either 1) arrived and were of no help, 2) had no idea what the ordinance was and how they are supposed to assist or 3) tried to act like the "good guys" with the passengers instead of helping the driver. Seems pretty ridiculous. As a result, we are forced to believe that this whole ordeal with the "crackdown" is simply another greedy attempt at squeezing money from businesses, not a sincere attempt at remedying the violence in Chicago. What do you think? How would you solve the problem? What are your suggestions? Have you had any similar experiences? Whether you’re a parent or a student, Prom time, as exciting as it is, is not an easy time! Among the hustle and bustle of starting a new chapter in your life, there are also so many fine details to iron out to assure your night is nothing short of perfect. We all want a night that is superbly epic, and there are ways to to assure that to be the case.
Recently, there has been a lot of “drama” surrounding the party bus industry. For example, in Chicago there have been several shootings involving party buses. In Huntington Beach, California, just this past weekend, there was a robbery at a 7-11 that was committed by several party bus riders. Luckily, the police were able to track down that vehicle. Source: (http://abc7.com/news/2-party-bus-passengers-arrested-in-assault-of-7-eleven-clerk-in-oc/1692564/) Upon tracking down the vehicle, police spent several hours interrogating all the witnesses and passengers until they were able to determine who the culprits were. Great work, right?
As a result of the recent violence and mischief occurring among Chicago Party Bus riders, Chicago has passed an ordinance. This ordinance basically makes party bus drivers and companies responsible for their passengers. Party bus drivers are required to notify the police when having problems among other things. If they choose to ignore rowdy passengers or laws being broken, they are the ones who are faced with paying hefty fines as a result. However, imagine our dismay when we recently had a group of passengers who actually had several violent altercations in our vehicle, and, upon requesting police assistance, not only did they not do anything to help, they immediately released the individuals that were fighting. Let’s back track. We’ll start from the beginning. Our driver was having trouble controlling his passengers. Several times, he had to pull over and reprimand guests. The entire group was very violently fighting inside the party bus. The driver was concerned for the safety of this passengers as well as himself and the vehicle. During the altercations, it had gotten so bad that passengers had ripped out a stripper pole, not to mention several other considerable amounts of damage had been caused. The driver proceeded to call the police to ask for their aid. He pulled the vehicle into a gas station where to police arrived. We spoke with the police who were with our driver on the phone, and we asked them to keep all the passengers where they were. We were on our way, and we wanted to pull the video footage so the police can file police reports against the individuals who had damaged our vehicle. It’s 4 AM on Christmas Eve, and we head over to make sure the individuals were held responsible for what they had done. As soon as we arrive, an officer approaches us and immediately informs us that he released the individuals involved in the altercations because he “could not hold them without cause.” As you can imagine, we are quite confused and disappointed in the sheer irresponsibility and laziness of these officers. It was their responsibility to interview the passengers onboard and wait for us to arrive so we can identify the individuals on our video feed and file police reports against them. As a party bus company, we are trying to do our best to uphold the law and mostly cooperate with these new Chicago ordinances and laws surrounding the Chicago party bus industry. However, how can we be successful if officers are too lazy to do their job? This is the second time where we have asked for police assistance where they have been almost not helpful at all. We are at a loss here. In the Huntington Beach incident, police held those individuals for several hours and interrogated everyone. In the Chicagoland area, police simply let the culprits go because they “could not hold them.” The hypocrisy amazes us. Thoughts? The Chicago Party Bus industry is booming, but not without its fair share of conundrums. How can you, as a customer, avoid the biggest problems and stresses when you reserve a party bus? Here is a list of tips on how to prepare!
As a Chicago Limousine and Chicago Party Bus company, we have many hurtles and leaps we must conquer. One has been dealing with underage individuals attempting to drink alcohol on our vehicles. Chicago and the surrounding suburbs have really cracked down on limos and party bus companies because there have been so many problems with passengers on board these vehicles. As a result, police officers have even begun random pullovers and inspections of vehicles. If there are underage individuals found on vehicles with alcohol on board, limo and party bus companies have been faced with paying hefty fines, even losing their business licenses. We here VIP Limousine, Inc. have always taken the law and the safety of our passengers very seriously. Parents trust us. The people who reserve our vehicles trust us. Therefore, we strictly enforce the Law and our policies. This can be an inconvenience to minors looking to partake in drinking on our vehicles, but we refuse to look the other way and allow any law to be broken while our valuable customers are in the trusting hands of VIP Limousine, Inc. drivers. We also do not tolerate bullies or bribes. This weekend, we encountered a very unfortunate situation. A young lady reserved a party bus with our company a couple of weeks ago. Upon making her reservation, she specifically asked our customer service rep what happens if 99% of her guests are 21 but 1 or 2 are underage. At that point, we had made it very clear to her that if she’d like those guests onboard, she may not have any alcohol onboard. She was informed that all guests must have Photo IDs on hand to confirm their legal age. Saturday night, her beautiful party bus arrived, clean and on time. As her guests began to board, our party bus driver was forced to check IDs as they were attempting to board with alcohol. Several guests had no identification and 2 he had found were not of the legal drinking age according to their Photo IDs. This group attempted to bribe him, saying they would “tip him more”, and the young lady who signed a contract with our company was calling the office stating that she didn’t think it would be a problem if one person was not 21. We again repeated the rules to her, which were clearly outlined in her signed contract. I, Anna, had personally told her we are very happy to serve her and her friends. We want them to enjoy their time. However, we cannot allow the law to be broken. At this point, the customer stated she’d like to cancel her bus and wanted her money back. As such, a contract has been signed, and one cannot simply receive a refund because they believed they were above the law and were not going to follow the rules that were clearly explained to them and that were clearly outlined on a contract that they signed. We had 100% fulfilled the contract terms on our end. The exact bus she reserved was there, on time, clean and ready to go. To make a long story short, this group ignored our driver, boarded the bus and would not remove the alcohol or the minors. We had issued the group several warnings attempting to be as polite and amicable as possible. Our pleas to simply follow the rules and enjoy their reserved party bus were ignored. As a result, we were forced to notify the police who gave them the same option we had given them. The group decided to exit the vehicle and not continue with their reservation time. After this unfortunate situation, our Facebook was bombarded with 1-Star Reviews stating that we have terrible service, our driver was rude, the wrong bus arrived, it had been dirty upon arrival, etc. The group heartlessly began to slander our good name. To our dismay, several members of the group consciously wrote lies on our Facebook hoping to remedy their anger and spite with vengeful false reviews. As a Chicago Party Bus and Chicago Limo company, our goal is to provide the best possible and safest service to our valuable customers and the highest quality vehicles. But does this mean we have to sacrifice our reputation as a result of simply upholding the Law? We’d love to hear your thoughts. Have you experienced a similar situation as a transportation service or as a passenger? What could we have done better to assure everyone’s happiness in this situation? Did we do the right thing? We welcome your feedback! |
